BPH Treatment near Colorado Springs, CO

A majority of men will have complications with their prostate and even experience symptoms of BPH. PAE is a safe treatment option for men with BPH and, like other minimally invasive procedures, has significant advantages over conventional surgery.

What is BPH?

BPH is a condition described by a prostate that has grown large enough to exceed its natural boundaries and begin to push down on the urethra.

  • Symptoms of BPH can include frequent urination, urinary incontinence, or trouble urinating.
  • An enlarged prostate becomes more likely with age and between the age of 50 and 60, nearly 50% of men are affected. Learn more about the risk factors.

Non-Surgical BPH Treatments

PAE is usually performed as an outpatient procedure and no general anesthesia is required. During the PAE procedure, also known as prostatic artery embolization, you’re given a mild sedative, but remain awake.

Men who want to avoid surgery should talk with our specialists at Denver BPH about our PAE procedure.

Our doctors at Denver BPH are board-certified, fellowship-trained, interventional radiologists with special training in both radiology and minimally invasive image-guided procedures.

How does Our Treatment for BPH Work?

The procedure begins with a tiny incision in your upper thigh or wrist to gain access to your arterial system. Using specialized X-ray equipment, a doctor called an Interventional Radiologist (IR) guides a catheter (a small hollow tube) to the vessels that supply blood to your prostate.

Once the IR reaches this location, embolic material (small particles about the size of a grain of sand) is injected through the catheter and into these blood vessels, decreasing blood flow to your prostate. The IR then repositions the catheter in order to treat the other side of your prostate. With its blood flow reduced, the prostate begins to shrink, relieving pressure on the urethra and improving symptoms, usually within days of the procedure.
